Peat bog Peciská - Oravice

An easy trip for everyone

From the car park you can reach the Peciská peat bog in about 14 minutes, if you follow the blue hiking trail. While walking along the wooden footbridges, you will admire the marshy peat bogs full of colourful life and harmony. We went to this place in autumn, when nature is bursting with colour. Above the peat bog there is a small lookout tower where you can sit down and relax.

Rare biotopes of Slovakia

Peat bogs are among the most interesting biotopes in Slovakia and form a rare type of wetland. Their existence is made possible by sufficient water. The permanently waterlogged biotope is covered by specific vegetation such as peat mosses or sedge grasses. In an oxygen-deficient environment, dead plant parts gradually accumulate layer by layer and form organic matter – peat. The formation of these layers is facilitated by a combination of excess water and limited oxygen.

Oravice

Oravice is situated on the northern side of the Western Tatras and is an ideal place for relaxation and active stay in nature. Throughout the year they offer beautiful views, thermal springs and varied opportunities for hiking and sports.
